What is M.D.F. (M.R)? M.D.F. is the abbreviation for
Medium Density Fibreboard. The M.R- following denotes
Moisture Resistant. M.D.F.(M.R.) is made from reconstituted
wood-fibre, urea-formaldehyde resin and wax. M.D.F. (contrary
to frequent discussion) is NOT banned or prohibited from
its use anywhere in the world. The wood-fibre comes generally
from Plantation pine logs and thinnings (small
branches).
How is it made? The ingredients are blended together to form a blanket. The
blanket thickness being dependant on the finished thickness
required. This blanket is pressed through a series of rolling
presses and driers until it is finally drum-sanded to its final
thickness. The motherboard (5400 x 3600) is then cut into common
sheet sizes.
What is it used for? M.D.F.(M.R) is ideal for wall and
ceiling linings, kitchen and bathroom cabinetry and in internal
areas where humidity, dampness and occasional water contact
occurs.
What we do! We profile the MDF (using specialized machinery) to replicate
the VJ or Beaded walls and ceilings in traditional Queenslander
-style construction.
Safety!
M.D.F. (M.R.) should be handled in
accordance with safe working practices to minimize exposure to dust
when cutting or machining. To assist with this, work and storage
areas must be well- ventilated and kept clean. Offcuts, shavings
and dust should be disposed in accordance with the requirements of
local waste disposal authorities.
